Half Life: Before is the new and very ambitious "mod" for the game Half Life that's offered here as a free download. It comes loaded not only with new game levels, equipment and weapons, but its creators have "grown" a new story for this chapter, as tense and intriguing as some parts of the original game itself.

Half Life: Before also takes advantage of the latest improvements made to Half Life's own engine (the game you need, of course, before you can install the Half Life: Before mod) to offer a few scenarios with stunning visual imagery, according to the new story that Half Life: Before brings.

In this game, you'll see how a certain kind of exposure to radiation opens a portal that presumably leads to another parallel device ... located in another dimension. Your mission in Half Life: Before is to go through that portal and discover what lies on the other side. Armed with a new combat suit, you are supposed to be protected, as you find that other device. You can them go back with it to the Black Mesa lab ... Or that's the plan, anyway. Do you dare to try?
